New hope for loosing weight?
Fresh from the news: Ritalin, the well-known drug for ADHD, found to cut calories and fat.
Ritalin works by increasing the dopamine level in the brain. Dopamine is involved in feelings of pleasure.
I guess if we talk about ‘comfort food’ meaning the food we eat to feel happy, if this happiness comes via drugs we don’t need food, hence we loose weight.
But… because there is a ‘but’, the main chemical in Ritalin is methylphenidate. And methylphenidate can be habit-forming. And last but not least, check out the long list of side-effects, which includes:
• fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
• chest pain
• shortness of breath
• excessive tiredness
• slow or difficult speech
• dizziness or faintness
• weakness or numbness of an arm or leg
• seizures
• changes in vision or blurred vision
• agitation
• abnormal thoughts
• hallucinating (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist)
• motor tics or verbal tics
• depression
• mood changes
• fever
• sore throat
• unusual bleeding or bruising
• muscle or joint pain
• hives
• rash
• itching
• difficulty breathing or swallowing
Still interested in using Ritalin as a weightloss magic pill?
